Amateur Basketball Association
(SKNABA)
The St. Kitts–Nevis Amateur Basketball Association (SKNABA) is the official governing body responsible for the development, administration, and promotion of basketball in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis. Since its formation in the 1980s, SKNABA has played a central role in shaping the growth of the sport, organizing national competitions, nurturing young talent, and representing the Federation in regional and international basketball events.
Basketball was first introduced to St. Kitts and Nevis in 1964 by Stanley Sebastian, laying the foundation for what would later become one of the Federation’s most exciting and competitive sports. Over the decades, SKNABA has built a proud legacy of athletic excellence and community engagement.
At the heart of the association’s operations is Basketball City in Basseterre, the iconic venue that has served as the home of competitive basketball for generations of players and fans. Currently undergoing upgrades and renovations, Basketball City continues to be the central hub for league games, youth development programmes, and national basketball activities.

SKNABA organizes the annual SKNABA National Basketball League, including the recently launched 2026 SKNABA League, which represents a renewed commitment to revitalizing the sport and building on the achievements of the past. During the “Golden Era” of the 1980s and 1990s, the league produced intense competition and widespread popularity, helping to develop some of the Federation’s most talented athletes, including standout players such as Glenn “Ghost” Phillip.
The association remains deeply committed to youth development and talent identification, actively scouting young players through programs such as U19 talent identification initiatives, training camps, and community outreach projects. SKNABA has also helped numerous athletes earn opportunities to play basketball at the collegiate level, including a record 13 scholarship athletes in 2011, demonstrating the Federation’s ability to produce high-level talent.
In addition to local competitions, SKNABA proudly represents St. Kitts and Nevis in regional and international tournaments, including Caribbean championships, invitational tournaments, and international 3×3 competitions, strengthening the Federation’s presence on the global basketball stage.
Despite challenges such as the limited availability of indoor facilities, SKNABA continues to invest in the development of the sport by upgrading courts, building partnerships, and expanding opportunities for players, coaches, and officials.
